In Flight Essentials

I never manage to sleep when I'm travelling, so I have a little routine to help me get distracted whilst I'm high up in the clouds.

Air conditioning on the plane can really dehydrate our skin. I tend to travel wearing minimal makeup, if anything at all, as I like applying a hydrating mask during my flight. To clean my face and remove any makeup residue before applying the mask, I'm currently using L'Oreal Micellar Water. I really like. It doesn't sting and it removes my makeup without the need for too much rubbing. I'm really tempted to try First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads next time I go on holiday. I've heard so many good things about them. Plus they seem quite practical, as you already have the pads drenched in the solution.

After cleansing my face, I then apply Origins Drink Up Intensive Mask. I put it into a little pot to take with me. It's perfect to keep my skin healthy and moisturised. I find that this mask can be a bit too heavy for my skin, so I rarely wear it overnight. However, I really enjoy it as a treatment for just a couple of hours or so.

I also make sure I wear my Nivea Milk & Honey Lip Balm & Benefit It's Potent Eye Cream. The Nivea balm is so moisturising, smells amazing and it's got 100% natural, organic ingredients. And the Benefit eye cream is another favourite, as it's light and hydrating at the same time.

Thermal water spray or a hydrating toner are a must have for me. This time I'm taking something new to my collection, Simple Moisture Boost Hydro Mist. Still testing it but so far so good. Another step to help keep my skin hydrated on the plane. I like applying it on top of my mask. But this little guy will also be very useful to keep me cool once I'm in Barcelona. It' only 30ml so very travel and handbag friendly. It can be applied to bare face or over makeup.

Before landing, I just tissue the mask off and apply a little bit of Maybelline Fit Me Concealer. I do my makeup properly only when I get to the hotel. If you wanna see the makeup I packed for this trip click here. I did a separate post on it.

Reading is a great distraction for me. I'm currently finishing reading a nice chick lit called Midsummer Magic by Julia Williams and I'm also taking some magazines and another book called Contagious by Jonah Berger, which is basically about social communication, word of mouth and how to make ideas catch on. I haven't started reading this one yet, but my hubby has gone through half of it and said it's really good. I'm excited to read it, as it might help me with ideas to promote the blog. ;-)

Another thing I love doing on planes is to watch a Film or a Documentary on my iPad Mini. BBC iPlayer allows you to download content and watch it offline. Unfortunately they rarely have good films available but I have downloaded a few nature and science related documentaries and the 2nd season of a British TV series called Cuckoo, now starring Taylor Lautner (the wolf from Twilight). I had never even heard of it until now but apparently it's been on since 2012 (trailer for season 2 here). Does anyone watch it?

Lastly, I couldn't be without music. I packed my iPhone with some of the most recent songs. My favourite ones at the moment have been the new single called Crazy Stupid Love by Cheryl Cole (available here) and Boom Clap by Charli XCX (available here), which is the song in The Fault In Our Stars Film. I'm also loving Ed Sheeran at the moment.

What do you like doing when you're flying? I'd love to hear your recommendations for my return trip. :-)

  1. I'm also like you and can't get any sleep on a plane (even on along haul flights it's terrible)! I love indulging in some gossip magazines (if I'm not flying with my little on that is lol)! x

    1. I haven't got little ones yet, so it's easier for me to indulge in all that. I'm sure it'll be a completely different in flight routine once I have them. Hehe xx

  3. Beautiful Post, I've been eyeing up the Simple Mist for a while but I tend to sway towards the Avene Water Spray because it's so hydrating and refreshing and also comes in a travel friendly size. The Milk and Honey Balm is beautiful, I love it!
