Mini Drugstore Haul & First Impressions - Including New Releases!

Drugstore Beauty Haul

My husband decided to go look for a book and I followed him to our local shopping area. While he was busy doing his thing, I decided to go kill some time in Superdrug. Needless to say that, as a typical woman, I wasn't strong enough to walk out empty handed. lol So here's a list of the few items I picked up and a mini review / first impressions of each one.

Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lipstick
1. NEW Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Lipstick
There are 15 shades available in this collection, ranging from nudes, pinks, reds and some very daring colours like a dark grey, a royal blue and a black. So there will be something for everybody. Unlike most people, however, I'm not a huge fan of matte lip products because my lips are usually pretty dry but I was surprisingly pleased with this one, as the formula feels very light and comfortable to wear. I got the shade Moca, a nude with brown undertones, and it lasted me a good few hours. These dry pretty quick to a full matte and are completely transfer proof. It survived eating and drinking pretty well, with only a tiny bit of the colour fading on the inner portion of my lips. They retail for £5.99. If you're into matte lips, I'd say these are definitely ones to check out!

Maybelline Vivid Hot Lacquers

2. NEW Maybelline Vivid Hot Lacquers
I believe the Vivid Hot Lacquers are available in 8 shades (in the UK). I picked up 64 Unreal, which is again a nude with brown undertones, very pretty! I am a big fan the doe foot applicator. Pointy, with some sort of hole in the middle that keeps more product in it. It makes application so easy. The formula is soft, comfortable, smells like candy (yummy) and it's very opaque. It applies very glossy but quickly dries a bit to a more satin finish. I'm actually impressed with how well these last on my lips, considering they're not matte. They can feel a tiny gloopy when I touch my lips together but not enough to bother me. Great product!

Maybelline Dream Cushion Foundation

3. Maybelline Dream Cushion Liquid Foundation
I believe these cushion foundations were pioneered in the Korean market and LancĂ´me was the first brand to bring these out to US and Europe, followed by many other brands but funnily enough, I had yet to try this innovative product. Those with Superdrug loyalty card, get a 20% off on all Maybelline products at the moment (on top of any other promotion), so I decided to test the Dream Cushion Foundation and I'm so glad I did. As you can see, it's essentially a sponge drenched in foundation and it comes with a pad, which I really liked. Although it does seem to absorb some of the product, it's soft and presses the foundation pretty evenly to the skin. I was initially unsure about the formula because as soon as you apply this foundation, it looks fairly matte / satin, which I never enjoy much. But the nice thing about the dream cushion formula is within an hour or so, it goes just a little dewy, but definitely non greasy. It just looks so natural. The coverage is light, but I'd say you can build it up to medium. I'm really enjoying it. Love that it's so practical and not heavy on the skin. I pretty much forget I have makeup on with this. A great option to throw in the handbag and apply on the go, as you don't need brushes or anything. Big thumbs up from me!

e.l.f Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder - shade Fiji

4. e.l.f Contouring Blush and Bronzing Powder - shade Fiji
For many years I watched YouTubers from the US talk about e.l.f and one of the most raved about products from their line is this blush and bronzing duo, which is supposed to be a dupe for Nars Laguna and Orgasm. However, this is the matte version, which I've heard is even better than the original formula. e.lf has now arrived in the UK and is available in Superdrug. Sadly we don't have the whole range on the shelves yet so there are other products from e.l.f that I know are amazing but are not being sold here for now. Hopefully they'll bring them out at some point soon. The shades of both bronzer and blush are so pretty and very pigmented. They blend really well and I love the packaging, which let's be honest, is again a rip off from Nars. This palette retails for £5, which I think is a great price, considering the quality is so good.

L'Oreal Hydra Genius
5. NEW L'Oreal Hydra Genius (Normal to Dry Skin)
This skincare release from L'Oreal is a gem hidden in the drugstore. Enriched with Aloe Water and Hyaluronic Acid, it's "fresh as water and hydrating as a cream", as L'Oreal describes it and I couldn't agree more. It feels super light on the skin, leaving it very soft and hydrated. You're supposed to use it instead of a daily moisturiser and I found it to be an incredible base under makeup. And did I mention it smells divine? I'd say it's almost like perfume, which many may not enjoy, but I personally am obsessed with the scent. I picked up the normal to dry skin version, but they also have one for normal to combination skin & dry and sensitive skin. It's currently on sale on both Boots & Superdrug for £6.65 (RRP £9.99). So hurry up if you want to get your hands on this little wonder.

Palmer's Purifying Enzyme Mask

6. Palmer's Purifying Enzyme Mask
I have only tried this mask twice so far but I really like it. Its main ingredients are natural Kaolin Clay (to purify the skin), Papaya Enzyme (resurfacing fruit acid to exfoliate) and Sweet Almond Oil (rich in vitamins and fatty acids). It also contains Cocoa Butter (a source of antioxidants) and so it has that delicious cocoa scent characteristic of Palmer's products. You can apply this mask 1-3x a week. I love that it dries out like any traditional clay mask, but it remains fairly flexible and comfortable on the skin. It's not one of those that u can barely speak or move your face. I remove it either with a damp exfoliating sponge or a muslin cloth. One great thing to mention is that it didn't strip the oil from my face. It left my skin feeling fresh and smooth. I have to admit it's not as amazing at exfoliating as my two favourite masks - the Glamglow Supermud Clearing Treatment & the Dermalogica Gentle Cream Exfoliant (read review of both here) but for the price (£5.49), I think it's brilliant and I will definitely continue using it.

Nivea Firming Cellulite Serum

7. Nivea Q10 Plus Firming Cellulite Serum
I actually bought this after watching a YouTube video about how this product helped someone reduce her under eye bags. I know, funny, right? I was initially worried about testing this because it's not a product designed for the eye area, but I really like the light gel texture and it doesn't sting and hasn't caused me any issue. I massage it under my eyes and on my crease going all the way up to the brow to help firm that area that naturally sags a bit with age. And I am pleased to say I'm already noticing a little improvement but it's still early days so I will update you guys if I think this is actually worth trying for that purpose. And I will eventually test it on my legs too. So keep an eye out for a future update on this. I got it on a 50% off sale but it retails for £11.79.

As you can see, I was lucky enough to enjoy everything I picked up in this mini beauty haul. Have you guys tried any of these products? I'd love to hear what you are currently enjoying from the drugstore and would recommend me to buy. Please leave a comment below. X
