REVIEW | Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler

Shu Uemura eyelash curler

For at least a couple years I had been tempted to buy the ever so popular Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler but the £20 price tag kept putting me off. I then got a Space NK's £5 reward (which you get for every £100 spent in the shop with their N.dulge card - oops!) and I finally decided to buy this extremely hyped up tool.

I'll go straight to the point and say that although the design seems pretty identical to any other cheaper eyelash curler you can find in the drugstore, the results are much better with Shu Uemura. The curler itself is the usual metal design with the brand engraved on it. The main difference I found was with the rubber pad, as it's a lot sturdier and less bouncy than its more affordable competitors. That's probably what makes the curl look more evident when using this tool in comparison to others I've tried. I used to have to be pretty quick with my old curlers, as the curl dropped really fast, sometimes even before I managed to apply mascara. I also had to wear waterproof mascaras religiously whenever I wanted my curl to stay put. The great thing about the Shu Uemura curler is that somehow, it ensures my lashes stay curled all day, even without the use of waterproof mascaras. Although I will say, waterproof mascaras are still better at leaving the lashes even more curled and for longer.

As you can see in the 1st photo above, my lashes are naturally short and pretty straight. So I love how they look after curling them with the Shu Uemura curler and now I totally understand the hype. I love its firmer rubber pads and how they create a more dramatic curl that stays curled all day long. The only disappointment for me is that the curler only comes with 1 refill, which cannot be bought separately, meaning once both rubber pads wear off, I will have to dish out £20 again and buy another curler. I could buy refills from other stores / brands but I've tried that before and the results can't be compared. Like I said, what I think sets Shu Uemura's curlers apart from others is exactly the rubber pad. For that price, I just wish they'd include at least 2 refills. But oh well. What really matters is I'm really happy with the results I can now achieve with this curler, as my lashes look lovely for much longer. So would I repurchase it? Yes. My old curler is now in the bin and I'm not looking back. I do appreciate this is an expensive tool but one that has been worth the money for me. I can now feel a bit more awake and glamorous on a daily basis and can also leave waterproof mascaras reserved exclusively for special occasions.

I'd love to hear your opinion. Do you own the Shu Uemura eyelash curler? Are they worth the splurge for you? X
